How does R? = BITTEREND in crossword puzzle? (I hope it was OK to put this in the Word Play category instead of Games and Recreation--I looked at some questions there and they were about video games, not anything crossword puzzle related). My mom has a day of the week calendar that has a new NY Times crossword puzzle every day. We have all the answers but we just can't figure out what one clue means, nor can anyone else in the family or family friends. It's either so easy it's hard or...really hard. I'd prefer it be really hard just so we don't look like morons when the answer slaps us in the face. OK, here goes: 64 across says: R? ...or a hint to the answers of the five starred clues. The answer is BITTEREND. The starred clues, followed by the answer in all CAPS are as follows: CLUE *Absolutely STONECOLD *Person with whom one will always fight SWORNENEMY *Cough drop flavor HONEYLEMON *It's no baloney PLAINTRUTH *Aspartame brand NUTRASWEET I thought that the BITTER from BITTEREND is meant to be put before the second word of each starred clue so you have BitterCold, BitterEnemy, BitterLemon, BitterTruth, and BitterSweet. But we still don't know how "R?" is a clue or a hint to the starred clues. I see that I'm putting the 2nd word from the starred answers after the "R" of BITTER. Is it as simple as that? It just doesn't "feel" like the right answer. Please break it to us gently if the answer is so obvious! How does R? = BITTEREND or how is it a hint to those other clues?
Crossword help. One to go.? Can anybody help with this last crossword hint, I'm pretty sure the letters I have already in the answer are correct from their clues. So here is the clue: Lazy people in the bread bakery? (7) U_A_E_S
Crossword puzzle! Need help with 2 clues(cryptic)? Hello, all! I need help with the following 2 clues from a puzzle I'm working on. Even a hint would be fine. 1). Shy boy? Anticipating a date? (4) _ M I _ 2). Tree cut down in large city in old forested district(7) _ _ _ _ D E N Any ideas? Both clues have me completely buffaloed! I think the answer to the first clue might be AMIL. A = one, MIL = date(Roman numerals). But I don't see why Amil is a SHY BOY. Is this even plausible? BTW: The first clue should read: Shy boy? One anticipating date? Sorry I mistyped it. Update: I finally got the first clue. There was a misprint in the puzzle and the first clue should have had 5 letters. In entering the answer one letter had to be omitted, so the answer is indeed TIMID. TIM + I + D. Still struggling with the 2nd clue. Help!
Please save me some embarrassment from my project, or support what I am doing.? I am working on a math project that is extra credit. I currently have a 66 in the class from the last time I checked my grades. I like to be creative and funny, and for the puzzle, should I write the definition of the word as the clue or should I make it a word pun? (Example, Mongolian raptors in New York would be velocity because the proper name for a mongolian raptor would be VELOciraptor, and New York is a CITY.) I'm not sure if other students will be filling this puzzle out. I feel as if I do it regular, people would get disappointed and ask me why isn't it more "outrageous". People already know I come up with "outrageous stuff" and I asked my teacher in front of the whole class if I was allowed to use word puns as the hints instead of the actual definition. She said yes, but she also said "as long as they aren't off the wall." I try to make them understandable, but I also make it so that it has easy questions and harder questions. I feel that if I do it my way, I'll be happy about myself that I was being creative and being myself, not the person everyone wants me to be, but what if there is negative commentary on my project? What if I get a lower grade because of it? I feel that if I do it like everyone else probably did it, I'll be happy that I breathed like a normal person for once, but then I'll feel like I was being too mature and more sullen and boring and in a way. The other kids in the class are mostly chavs and jocks; boring to me; I don't want to be a normal person because a lot of people say that the unpopular, more creative kids are the ones that are successful not the popular idiots that probably won't even get half of this stuff. I over-think things too much, don't I? It's a bad habit. It kind of sucks. I'm sure once I click "continue" this is going to be long as hell. So what do you think? Should I be myself and make the best crossword puzzle out of everyone in the class? Or should I just blend in and probably not talk to those kids anyway? I know that making this crossword puzzle won't give me the "path to popularity" but I don't care about being popular I have friends in other classes and outside of school but just for a little joke, I really would like to make this. This is MY AMBITION, to make this goofy crossword puzzle for extra credit, but what do you guys think of the idea? Do other people like this, or am I just a madman?
Crossword Hints? I'm currently in the middle of making a crossword puzzle as a school assignment and the only issues I'm having is making up the hints. Does anyone know a site or something where I can look up clues by the word I'm using?
